The ERCB answers directly to the Executive Council (Cabinet) of Alberta through the Minister of Energy, but makes its formal decisions independently in accordance with the six statutes it administers.

Albertans and the industries under the jurisdiction of the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) have a right to fairness, transparency, competence, and quality service from the ERCB.

ERCB Board members and employees are bound by a Code of Conduct and Ethics.
